Important Update!

For those that read Oh My God Lynn and wondered if Patsy’s Law got passed... I have great news to share!

As you know my sister and I have fought tirelessly to reform North Carolina’s outdated elder abuse laws, especially after my mother's untimely passing while under guardianship. That journey has led to a major achievement: Governor Roy Cooper has signed Bill 615. Known as the Guardianship Rights Bill, this legislation directly addresses abuse occurring within North Carolina guardianship and gives courts increased authority to monitor and oversee cases where abuse is reported.

Collective Efforts and Support

The passage of Senate Bill 615 would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of many. Chapel Hill University’s “Cares Program” played a significant role in advancing the bill. The heartbreaking stories of my mother and other high-profile abuse cases drew essential attention to the urgent need for change.

Impact and Reflection

Knowing that my mother, "Patsy," and others who suffered under North Carolina guardianship have sparked protections for present and future wards brings me peace. My hope is that my story, which is defined by perseverance and a refusal to give up, will inspire others to continue advocating for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Closing Thoughts

Never forget those who are unable to cry out for help—it is our duty to protect them. May God guide and bless you as you move forward, and may you find peace, strength, and closure in your journey, just as I have found in mine.
